We celebrated Josh’s sixth birthday recently. Unfortunately, due to a sickness in the family, we weren’t able to have our typical get-together with extended family and friends. Instead, it was just a special dinner with the four of us, followed by cake and presents.
Over the past year Josh has improved his reading, learned some basic arithmetic, and began practicing chords on his Loog guitar. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
Over this past weekend, we celebrated Josh’s fifth birthday. It was a relatively small get-together in our backyard with family and close friends. We had pizza and cupcakes decorated to mimic Fred Flintstone’s shirt.
The hit of the day was the Power Wheels that Josh received — we found it deeply discounted at Ollie’s. He had a blast driving it around the neighborhood with his friends riding shotgun.
I’m a bit later to publishing this than I had initially planned. We’ve been busy at the Rockwell household preparing for the little one that should be arriving soon.
We had a small get together with family to celebrate Josh’s birthday this year. The hit of the day was the new remote control car that kept him and his cousins occupied for a good portion of the afternoon.
We had a construction-themed party in our backyard, gathering many of our friends and family to celebrate Josh’s birthday. The kids played with squirt guns, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles, while the rest of us competed in a few rounds of Mölkky. There was pizza, cake, and presents.
Over the past year, Josh has learned the alphabet, how to spell his name, built the confidence to swim on his own in his life jacket, and more. We can’t wait to see what the next twelve months brings.
Joshua Matthew Rockwell is another year older. It’s been tough at times, as parenting tends to be, but it’s the most rewarding thing my wife and I have ever done. He’s speaking quite a bit more lately, learning new words every day. He’s jumping around the house with a seemingly endless supply of energy. I thank God every day for this little guy.
We had planned a small get-together to celebrate, but Josh spiked a fever last week and we ended up having to cancel. It’s unfortunate, but we’re going to try and reschedule it for another weekend. In the meantime, he’s been having a blast riding around on his new tricycle.
One year ago, Joshua Matthew Rockwell came into this world and changed my life forever. There have been ups and downs, but I can’t overstate how happy my wife and I are to have him around. He’s learned to walk, eat solid food, say “mama” and “dada”, climb steps, and more. It’s fascinating to watch a child learn and develop — I can’t wait to see what comes next.

After about 19 hours of labor, my wonderful wife Becky gave birth to our first child.
His name is Joshua Matthew Rockwell and he’s the coolest little dude I’ve ever met.
He weighed 7 pounds 5.8 ounces.
The family is home now. Becky and Joshua are both doing well and we couldn’t be happier to have this little one in our lives.
