I didn’t know this existed.

I don’t expect I’ll actually use it much, since I generally am not on my phone while riding in a vehicle. But if I ever found myself in a situation where I needed to use my iPhone while in the passenger seat — to look up information during a road trip, for example — I might give this feature a try.
