This bit also struck me as odd:

“I want you all to know” is a bit of a performative — based on the actual text, he isn’t saying that it was his decision, he’s saying that he wants you to know it was his decision. Maybe I’m picking this apart a bit more than I should, but I sort-of get the feeling he was pushed out.
