Ten years ago, Apple Brought Podcasting to iTunes ➝

I had heard of podcasts before Apple announced that they were going to be added to iTunes. Shows like The Daily Source Code and Revenge of The Screensavers are two that come to mind as some of my early favorites. But, I wasn’t actually using the subscription mechanism until it came in iTunes 4.9. Since then I’ve spent thousands of hours listening and have learned about everything from technology to stand up comedy through the medium.

I no longer subscribe to shows with iTunes — now preferring Overcast. But undoubtedly, Apple adding the feature to their popular music app was second only to the creation of the technology as the most important event in podcasting history.
